Trivia[]

  • According to developer and showrunner Salim Akil, the city was originally going to be named after his real life hometown--Richmond, CA--but decided against that as he didn't want people to feel bad about where they live.[1]
  • The name Freeland came from a quote by Mara Brock Aki. "One day, free the land." [2]
  • In "The Book of the Apocalypse: Chapter One: The Alpha" Gambi's computer monitor shows a location labeled "Freeland, GA", placing Freeland in the state of Georgia.
